So, you’ve cleaned up your diet and started eating healthier foods, but have you considered the soap used to clean the dishes you eat off of? In this blog post, I am going to show you how I make non-toxic dish soap, and it only takes a few minutes! This soap is easy on your skin, safe for your dishes, and safe for you.
Why Choose a Non-Toxic Dish Soap
Choosing a homemade non-toxic dish soap is a great choice for every family. Not only will it give you a safer cleaning agent, but it will also save you money in the long run. But what’s wrong with conventional dish soap in the first place? Let’s take a look.
Most dish soaps on the market contain several ingredients that can be harmful to your health. The first one is fragrance. Fragrances are scents made up of hundreds of different chemicals that are not regulated by the FDA. They are known to cause allergic reactions as well as migraines. No thank you!
Triclosan is another harmful ingredient in many dish soaps. This is an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent that is an endocrine disruptor. It is also thought to be a carcinogen.
Denatured alcohol is another ingredient that is mind blowing to me that it is allowed to be used in dish soap. This product is not fit for human consumption, yet we are able to wash our dishes with it, that we then consume food off of. I get it, it is a small amount, it evaporates, and you dry the dishes afterwards. Still, I’d rather not have it on my hands multiple times a day, or on my dishes. I think I will pass!

Ingredients in Non-Toxic Dish Soap
Now that we have gone over the harmful ingredients in conventional dish soap, let’s talk about how you can make a safe and effective soap at home for a fraction of the price.
The first ingredient you will need is Castile Soap. Castile soap is a plant-based soap that is hypoallergenic, and free of harmful chemicals and synthetic ingredients. It is typically made of olive, hemp, and coconut oils. And many have essential oils added to them. Castile soap is great for people with sensitive skin. Also, because it is scented with essential oils, you do not have to worry about any artificial fragrances.
The second ingredient I use is Doterra On Gaurd Concentrate. This product is made up of a proprietary doTERRA On Guard Protective Blend of Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary essential oils. I use this to make dish soap and my everyday household cleaners. It is safe and effective for your home and will leave your dishes sparkling and smelling nice too!
