Easy Homemade All Purpose Spray

When it comes to cleaning sprays, it can be hard to find ones without harmful chemicals. A lot are filled with parabens, phthalates, triclosan, and formaldehyde. These are known for causing allergic reactions, migraines, hormone disruptions, skin conditions, and even cancer. Check out our blog that describes this more in detail! In our home, I’m trying not to use products with these things in them. So, I have chosen to make our all purpose spray.

I have two “go-to” all purpose sprays that I use to clean in my house. One is Doterra’s On Guard Concentrate plus water. The other is a vinegar plus water with lemon and orange peels cleanser. In this blog, I’ll share with you how to make these yourself!

Lemon/Orange All Purpose Spray

This cleanser is very easy and cheap. It is also a great way to have zero wastes! As you eat lemons and oranges, add them to a large 30 oz mason jar. You’ll want to make sure to scrape out all the insides out of the lemons and oranges so that it is just skin in your jar. Once you’ve collected a jar full of lemons and oranges, cover it to the top with vinegar. (You can also put vinegar on them as you collect them.) Let this concoction sit for 2 weeks. Then, use a strainer to obtain the lemon/orange infused vinegar. Discard the peels after the liquid is strained.

Then, pour the vinegar into an amber glass spray bottle and fill the rest of it with filtered water. You are now ready to spray away! I’ll be honest with you, I do not prefer the smell of vinegar. The lemons and oranges do help cover it up quite a bit. But, if this smell isn’t one you’d like to have in you kitchen, then use it in your bathrooms! This spray should not be used on natural stone surfaces due to the high acidity of it.

Oranges and lemons both can cut through grease and dirt. They are antibacterial, can remove mold and mildew, and are helpful in removing odors and stains. Vinegar is great at cutting dirt, grease and grime. It also a helpful disinfectant.

On Guard All Purpose Spray

My personal favorite is the On Guard All Purpose spray. I love the way it smells and I can feel very confident in it’s ability to clean and get rid of bacteria. It is full of essential oils that are known for being antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral. I mix 2 tbsp of the on guard concentrate into an amber glass spray bottle. Fill the rest of the bottle with filtered water. Then, it’s ready for use!
