Hey friends! My name is Hannah, and I am one of the ladies behind the Crunchy(ish) Mamas Blog. I love Jesus, gardening, making sourdough bread, hiking, and dream of one day having a small homestead. I am a wife to a man I have known since middle school and we have two sweet, smart, and rambunctious little boys. We live in the suburbs of our town. And while we are trying to make the most of our little plot of land, we have dreams to buy some land and a big white farmhouse on a hill one day.
My Backstory
In June of 2021 my second son was born. I felt the Holy Spirit leading me to leave my job in the business world to be a stay-at-home mom and I have not looked back. Being a mom has caused me to question EVERYTHING! But staying home with my kids has given me the time, ability, and desire to search for the answers. I want my kids to have the best life I can give them and to be as healthy as possible. I believe this will help them live out the work God has called them to.
Backing up a few years I will fill you in on where my crunchy journey began. In 2017 I realized I was feeling terrible all the time. I had constant headaches, bloating, tiredness, and brain fog like crazy! I knew I wanted to do something, so I just started. My first step was doing Whole30. Looking back have some issues with this diet but, it opened my eyes to the world of whole foods. I found a lot of things that my body was just not accepting. At that point I began working on totally changing the way we eat and cutting out most processed foods.
Fast forward to 2021 and this is where my life radically changed. Like I mentioned earlier, this is when I left my job to stay at home. We were eating well, trying to cut out toxic products around our house, and spending as much time in nature as possible. But guys, I still needed one thing in a big way…the word of God. I grew up in church, have been a Christian since I was 6, and have always loved the Lord. But it was not until I became a stay-at-home mom to my two sweet boys that I actually dove in and began truly studying the Bible.
I truly believe God called me out of the workplace to be able to be home with my kids, but also because He needed to get my attention because I had not been fully living for Him.
The Good Life
So, what does reading the Bible have to do with my finding my place amongst the crunchy crowd? Everything!! The more I read scripture the more my eyes have been opened to the way God intended for us to live. Passages like Genisis 1, Proverbs 31 and 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 started shaping the way I saw God’s design for my life. He gave us all the right foods, herbs, and plants right from the beginning to help us live a healthy life. He designed our bodies so clearly; He knows what they need to work!
These passages also showed me how God wanted me to life as a wife, mom, and follower of Him. We started growing a bigger garden, using herbs as medicine, and making sourdough bread, just to name a few. I am not saying that if you love a Chick-fil-a sandwich then you somehow don’t love God. And I believe there is a time and place for western medicine and am incredibly thankful for the resources that we have. But I also believe that there is so much in nature that we are missing out on.
Like I said, I am rather new to this space and still have a lot to learn. But my prayer for this blog is that we glorify God, learn a lot from each other, and have a few laughs along the way. So, I hope that you will join me for this wild ride. Let’s put on some worship music, make some bread, and get crunchy, ladies!
